• Gettin’ Squirrelly: The Ozark Highlands Nature Center will serve as a check location for the 2024 Arkansas Big Squirell Challenge this Friday and Saturday, Jan 12-13 — a great preview to the World Champion Squirrel Cook Off, coming back to Springdale on Sep 7.

• Fishing For Compliments: Learn different ways to cook trout at the Ozark Highlands Nature Center on Saturday, Jan 20, from 2-4p.

  Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation will host a Fishing Derby at Murphy Park in Springdale on Saturday, Jan 27, from 9a-12p.

Laser Van Scanning Fayetteville Streets And Sidewalks

If you spot this laser-enabled van cruising around Fayetteville over the next few weeks, don’t worry... it’s just analyzing the state of the city’s street pavement and sidewalk conditions.

• Set Phasers To Scan: The Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) van operates as a laser road surface tester – measuring pavement roughness, rutting, and cracking along the roadways. It also collects roadway and right-of-way data through four digital video cameras and GPS lasers mounted inside the van.

• On The Road Again: IMS will take inventory of Fayetteville’s streets to develop a pavement condition index (PCI) rating. That data helps the city plan efficient strategies for upkeeping its roads.
