Arkansas Game and Fish Converts Christmas Trees Into Fish Habitat
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is collecting donated Christmas trees to sink in lakes and reservoirs in Northwest Arkansas, creating beneficial fish habitat from recycled holiday decorations.
A Fishy Second Life: Once submerged, the trees provide hiding places for small fish and become food sources for algae and insects as they decompose.
Casting With Purpose: The program also creates new fishing hot spots for bass and crappie while giving trees an environmentally beneficial second life, creating an eco-friendly alternative for Christmas tree disposals, and directly improving Arkansas fishing opportunities.
