Single Parent Scholarship Fund Of NWA Prepares For Annual Spark Of Hope Event

The Single Parent Scholarship Fund of NWA will honor its supporters and scholarship recipients during the 2024 Spark of Hope event at the Rogers Convention Center on Thursday, July 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Forty Years Strong: In 1984, Marjorie Marugg-Wolfe and Ralph co-founded SPSFNWA to help single parents struggling to make ends meet. What began with $3450 to help fifteen families has grown to support over 21,435 single parents, with over $17.8m donated.

  • Recognizing Resilience: Each year, more than 600 supporters and corporate sponsors attend the signature Spark of Hope event, which honors SPSFNWA supporters and recipients with a community dinner and awards ceremony.

LA Rams Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp Takes Dodo Coffee Co National

Dodo Coffee Co at 2699 MLK Blvd in Fayetteville got national recognition last week when owner Cooper Kupp, star wide receiver of the LA Rams, launched nationally.

  • Low Key Famous: Founded by Super Bowl champion Cooper Kupp and his wife Anna, Dodo Coffee Co has been operating as a low-key family-run shop in Fayetteville, where Anna’s family is based, since January.

  • Quality Over Quantity: Plans to open more locations nationwide are underway, but for now, the focus is on consistently delivering high-quality, single-origin coffee beans. Dodo Coffee Co is currently sourced from Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Hawaii, and Brazil, working with reliable farmer cooperatives and growers with high standards.

Opera In The Ozarks Continues 2024 Summer Season Of Enchanted Evenings

Opera in the Ozarks, the summer music festival and prominent opera training program based in Eureka Springs, is in full swing with more opportunities to experience Enchanted Evenings — now through Jul 19.

  • On The Mountain: The 2024 season features a talented cast of singers and professional musicians from across the country in 22 rotating performances of four MainStage operas, including Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, Robert Ward’s The Crucible, and a double bill featuring Vittorio Giannini’s Beauty and the Beast and Maurice Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges.

  • On The Road: Additionally, the company is performing over a dozen traveling productions throughout Northwest Arkansas, including a Broadway Cabaret at Mount Sequoyah in Fayetteville on Jul 11, a Chamber Music Concert on Jul 15 at Inspiration Point, and another Broadway Cabaret at the Crescent Hotel on Jul 16.

The 28th Annual Gulley Park Summer Concert Series continues with a performance by backwoods funk group The 1 Oz. Jig this Thursday, Jul 11, from 7-9p.

  • Summertime Singin’: Just three performances remain as part of the 2024 Gulley Park Summer Concert Series, occurring on Thursday evenings from 7-9p at the Gulley Park Gazebo. This year’s remaining lineup includes The 1 Oz. Jig, Marybeth Byrd, and Arkansauce.

  • Gettin’ Jiggy With It: This week’s musical guest is The 1 Oz. Jig. Get ready to put the “fun” in “funk”, and don't be surprised to hear the audience singing along, as crowd participation is a key element of the band’s live shows.

Hip-Hop Open Mic And Mentorship Program Continues At The Medium In Springdale

The fourth season of Groundwaves, the successful hip-hop open mic and mentorship program facilitated by West Coast rapper and professional producer Murs, continues with Open Mic Night at The Medium in Downtown Springdale on Tuesday, Jul 9, from 6-9p.

  • From The Ground Up: Since 2021, Groundwaves has gathered together MCs from across the region with legendary West Coast rapper Murs for community, creative collaboration, and career development. Over 100 artists have participated in the Springdale-based program, with each season featuring new talent and audiences.

  • Murs The Mentor: Sign-ups for the open mic nights begin at 5p, and the showcase kicks off at 6p. Following open mic night, Groundwaves performers can access free, one-on-one mentorship sessions with Murs on Wednesday, Jul 10, allowing artists a chance to discuss personal development, business, and growth.
