Ocean Research Technology Providing a Deeper Look into Beaver Lake
NWA Daily
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists are revolutionizing their study of game fish in Beaver Lake using hydroacoustics — a cutting-edge technology often used in ocean research.
Underwater: Think of hydroacoustics like a high-tech fish finder on steroids, revealing schools of shad beneath the water's surface. Pairing this advanced technology with traditional methods provides a holistic evaluation of a lake’s forage base or food source.
Fish Tales: Better data on the health of Beaver Lake’s forage base will allow AGFC biologists to make informed decisions on how to manage the health of the game fish populations like striper, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, blue catfish, etc., and promote successful recreational fishing experiences.
