Local Salon Making A Global Impact With Leftover Hair Clippings
Ever wonder what happens to your hair clippings after you bust out the salon with that fresh look? Well, most probably end up in the trash, but one Northwest Arkansas hair salon has found an innovative use with a big environmental impact.
Hairstream: Owned by Aaron Elam, Hairstream Salon operates out of a renovated 1987 Airstream trailer on MLK Jr. Blvd in Fayetteville near Arsaga’s Mill District. While researching uses for hair clippings, Elam came across Matter of Trust.
Oily Hair: Matter of Trust, a nonprofit based in San Francisco, collects fiber waste like hair clippings and weaves them into large oil-absorbing mats, which can be used to contain oil spills in oceans, lakes, and rivers.
If that’s the kind of oily hair you can get behind, book your next cut at Hairsteam Salon HERE.
Outdoors
Spruce Up Your Favorite Fishing Hole With Some Festive Decor
The holiday is over, and it’s time to take down the trees. Put yours to good use by dropping it off at one of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission’s tree drop-off locations to be turned into fish habitat.
Sleeping With The Fishes: The AGFC Christmas Tree drop-off locations work like a take-a-penny, leave-a-penny tray at a cash register. Anyone can drop off their tree, and anyone is welcome to take them to sink their own brush piles.
Underwater Christmas: Trees can be dropped off at boat ramp access points at Beaver Lake, Lake Elmdale, Bob Kidd Lake, Crystal Lake, and Lake Fayetteville until the end of January. No artificial trees are allowed, and all ornaments and tinsel should be removed.
Find directions to drop-off locations HERE.
