Arkansas’s Tourism Industry is Booming

The State of the State Mid-Year 2023 Report revealed Arkansas's tourism industry is experiencing a significant boom. Many spots in Arkansas are seeing record visitation, making tourism a strong contributor to the state's economy.

  • On Vacation: The Arkansas Tourism Ticker further shows healthy gains in the leisure and hospitality sector, with a tourism tax increase of over 10% between January and April and a 5% rise in average tourism sector jobs in the first four months of 2023.

  • Land of Oz: Our corner of the state is certainly pulling its own weight, with the Oz Trails providing world-class mountain biking, Crystal Bridges attracting visitors with its one-of-a-kind collection of American art, and other attractions drawing visitors from around the world.

Bentonville Public Library recently began a groundbreaking initiative with its BPL Seed Library, inviting patrons to save and share packets of seeds to grow a variety of vegetables and flowers, including heirloom tomatoes, peas, and bok choy.

  • Grow Together: By collaborating with local organizations like Benton County Master Gardeners and NWA Food Bank, the library aims to cultivate a vibrant network of plant enthusiasts passionate about growing organic produce, preserving plant diversity, and strengthening the local ecosystem.

  • Learn to Garden: The Seed Library serves as a hub for education, conservation, and the preservation of heirloom and native plant varieties. Visitors can access resources, study gardening charts, and choose from a selection of seeds. Seeds donations are also highly encouraged.

A recent analysis ranked Northwest Arkansas 4th in terms of most affordable single-family rentals in the US, with prices almost 25% lower than the national average.

  • The Numbers: The RentCafe analysis revealed the average cost of a single-family rental in the US is $1,700. In Northwest Arkansas, the average came in at $1,325, significantly lower than nearby cities like Little Rock ($1,627), Oklahoma City ($1,590), and Kansas City ($1,546).
