Northwest Arkansas Making Strides Towards A Transformative Healthcare Model

Northwest Arkansas could be at the forefront of a healthcare revolution with the opening of the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine and the Whole Health Institute — currently under construction in Bentonville near Crystal Bridges.

  • Staying Healthy: In response to a 2019 report that revealed the region loses $950M annually as residents seek medical care elsewhere, Alice Walton started the initiative to train more doctors with an emphasis on preventative care and ultimately transform the healthcare payment structure by rewarding doctors for keeping people healthy.

  • First Class: The independent medical school will integrate the arts, humanities, and whole health principles with traditional medical education. It is expected to launch its inaugural class of 48 students in the fall of 2025.
