Heartland Forward Launches Inaugural Stepping Stones Cohort

Bentonville nonprofit Heartland Forward, in collaboration with D.C. firm Builders + Backers, has launched the inaugural Stepping Stones program to help entrepreneurs in the Heartland launch revenue-generating companies and create jobs.

  • Let’s Get It Started: Builders + Backers selected 12 entrepreneurs for the first cohort of the year-long Stepping Stones program, offering $25,000 in non-dilutive funding and support to help get their businesses off the ground.

  • Local Leaders: Two Northwest Arkansas-based startups are participants in the Stepping Stones program, including Abily — a tech startup working on a picture-based web browsing experience for people with motor and visual disabilities — and Gnargo Bike Co., which repurposes classic steel bike frames into electric-assisted cargo bikes.
