Northwest Arkansas Hospitals Link Arms to Improve Maternal Health Outcomes

NWA Daily

In a recent study, Arkansas ranked 50th among the states regarding maternal health. Several Northwest Arkansas hospitals are joining an initiative to reverse that trend.

  • Linking Arms: Mercy Hospital NWA, Northwest Medical Center, Washington Regional Medical Center, and Willow Creek Women’s Hospital have joined the Arkansas Perinatal Quality Collaborative, a statewide collaboration of 33 hospitals led by UAMS to improve maternal health outcomes in the Natural State.

  • Expanding Care: Over the next two years, the collaboration will focus on reducing cesarean delivery rates, improving education resources, and expanding postpartum care beyond the hospital. One initiative encourages mothers to wear a silicone bracelet listing their place of delivery for up to a year — crucial emergency information, considering 53% of pregnancy-related deaths occur from 7 to 365 days postpartum.
