Local High Schoolers Fostering Literacy Through Bilingual Book Project
Springdale High School’s Bilingual Club is making an impact in local elementary schools through a bilingual book project designed to teach literacy, celebrate culture, and inspire pride among younger students.
Connecting Cultures: Partnering with Bayyari and Monitor elementary schools, the high school students, known as the "Bilingual Bulldogs," mentor younger students in literacy and language skills. Their goal is to create bilingual books that encourage children to embrace their heritage.
A Lasting Impact: With nearly 45% of Springdale Public Schools students identifying as Hispanic and 15% as Marshallese, this initiative supports cultural pride in a diverse district while celebrating the strengths of being bilingual. The program plans to publish the books as gifts for the elementary students and record digital versions featuring the children’s voices.
