NWA's Growth Fuels Opportunities for Housing and Innovation

The region’s leaders gathered in Fayetteville last week for the annual State of the Northwest Arkansas Region Report. The report revealed ongoing population, job, and housing cost growth in NWA, but leaders stressed the need for more affordable housing and better support for entrepreneurs.

  • Cost Of Living: Presented by the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, the report highlighted rising homeownership costs, with median home prices up 5.4% year-over-year. Commute times remain favorable, but affordable housing and transportation costs are a concern, with 49% of residents’ income going toward these expenses.

  • An Entrepreneurial Community: CBER Director Mervin Jebaraj noted NWA’s tight labor market and strong economic growth, though wage growth lags behind soaring housing costs. The report calls for enhanced support for entrepreneurs to build a sustainable, innovative economy.
