$53M, Five-Year Recycling Plan In The Works For NWA
The Northwest Arkansas Council just announced a five-year, $53M plan to improve NWA’s recycling system.
The Problem: Each year, 117K tons of recyclable material get tossed in the region’s only landfill, which is running out of space. A lack of education and clear recycling guidelines has also left local satisfaction rates 20% below the national average.
The Plan: The council is pitching nine strategic projects to increase recycling participation, expand capacity at local material recovery facilities, and improve collaboration. The goal? Increase participation rates and tons collected by 25% over the next five years.
