Northwest Arkansas Posts Lowest Unemployment in the State
Northwest Arkansas continues to set the pace for the state’s economy after posting high job growth and the lowest unemployment in the state.
On The Rise: The region added more than 8,600 jobs over the past year and saw a 2.7% unemployment rate in May 2025, well below other metro areas in the state.

Schmieding Center and UAMS Join Forces to Enhance Healthcare in Springdale
Springdale’s Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education (SCSHE) celebrated a new partnership with UAMS’s family medicine program during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Jun 30.
A Vision Realized: The partnership between SCSHE and UAMS has been years in the making. Lawrence Schmieding, the center’s namesake, donated $15 million to UAMS two decades ago with a vision to combine family and senior healthcare in one space.
Health in Action: SCSHE and UAMS are focused on improving well-being in NWA by increasing primary care access in Springdale, expanding geriatric services, educating future medical professionals, and serving the local Spanish-speaking community.

Speed Through Downtown Fayetteville at the Dickson Street Mile
Test your speed and stamina against the local running community during the Dickson Street Mile in Downtown Fayetteville on Jul 26.
One Mile, Everyone Knows the Rules: Starting at 7a, the one-mile, U.S.A.T.F. certified race will start and finish near George’s Majestic Lounge, weaving through Dickson Street and surrounding streets.
All Are Welcome: The Dickson Street Mile welcomes everyone, including dogs, kids, competitive & elite runners. Registration includes a t-shirt, headband, finisher medal, and a special treat for Dog Mile participants!
