Housing
Affordable Housing Gaps Widen as NWA Population Grows
A new housing report reveals that Northwest Arkansas’s rapid growth is outpacing affordable housing, prompting a renewed call for regional collaboration.
Costs Climb, Supply Lags: Since 2019, home prices have jumped 70.9% and median rent for multifamily units has risen nearly 50%. Meanwhile, the need for low-income rental units has grown from 7,100 to 9,300, and cost-burdened households have increased by 10%.
Moving Forward: The Our Housing Future report outlines five key steps: creating a regional housing vision, launching a trust fund, utilizing public land, leveraging state/federal resources, and incentivizing affordable development, especially in fast-growing towns beyond the region’s core cities.
