Trail of Tears Film Comes to Life in Prairie Grove

Only in Arkansas

A powerful short film rooted in Cherokee history is being filmed in Prairie Grove, capturing the emotional legacy of the Trail of Tears.

  • A Song of Survival: Trail of Tears: The Hymn follows a Cherokee man who preserved his grandmother’s hymn in a journal before being forced to relocate. Though he was killed along the trail, the journal survived and is now preserved as the oldest Cherokee writing in the collection at the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah.

  • Rooted in History: Director Chris Coursey has built the film around real Cherokee artifacts and traditions, working with cultural advisors to ensure historical accuracy and respect. Filming took place in Prairie Grove along historic segments of the Trail of Tears.

Big Things in Motion for Northwest Arkansas Roads and Trails

NWA Council

Northwest Arkansas’s roads and trails are getting some serious upgrades, with major projects moving ahead to make travel smoother, safer, and more connected.

  • Highways & Byways: Construction on the Springdale Northern Bypass is cruising along, with the phase two stretch between I-49 and Highway 112 set to wrap up by 2027. A four-lane, interstate-style highway connector to XNA is also in progress and expected to open mid-2027. A project to widen Highway 112 to four lanes between Fayetteville and Bentonville is also underway.

  • Walking Points: Big ideas are also brewing for the Razorback Greenway, with a long-range plan coming together to reimagine the 40-mile trail as more than just a bike path but a vibrant corridor that connects cities and supports walkable living across the region.
