Throwback Thursday
History Keeps Turning at Johnson Mill
The next time you pull into Johnson â perhaps on your way to grab some Pizzaria Ruby â maybe youâll wonder about that historic-looking mill just off I-49. Itâs one of the oldest landmarks in Northwest Arkansas and the center of Johnsonâs long history.
From Mill to Town: Originally built as Truesdaleâs Mill in the 1830s, the site became a cornerstone of early settlement life. After being burned during the Civil War, it was rebuilt in 1865 by J.Q. Johnson, who eventually became the townâs namesake. The mill stayed in operation until 1978.
A New Chapter: In 1990, architect James Lambeth transformed the mill into Inn at the Mill, a boutique hotel that preserved the millâs rustic charm. Today, it stands as both a historic landmark and a symbol of Johnsonâs enduring legacy.
