Designs Released for Fayetteville’s New Woodland Junior High

Modus Studios, a Fayetteville-based architecture firm, recently presented plans for the new state-of-the-art Woodland Junior High campus, which Fayetteville Public Schools aims to open by the 2027-28 school year.

  • Getting Schooled: Located on a 27-acre site at Joyce Blvd and Crossover Rd., the 160,000-sqft, three-story building will accommodate up to 900 students. The project is part of the district’s larger plan to restructure grade levels. The current Woodland will become a middle school, a new Ramay Junior High will be built near College Ave and Poplar St., and John L Colbert Middle School will be renovated into a third junior high school.

  • Honoring Heritage: The design features mass timber construction to maximize natural light and sustainability. Historic barns on the site will be repurposed into outdoor classrooms and a greenhouse, connecting students to Fayetteville’s agricultural roots.

NWACC Seeks Community’s Help in Building Beds for Local Children

NorthWest Arkansas Community College is calling for volunteers to help build and deliver beds for children in need through a partnership with the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace next Friday, Mar 14, starting at 1p.

  • Building A Bedder Future: Sleep in Heavenly Peace estimates that 154,171 children in the U.S. don’t have a bed to sleep in, including roughly 228 kids in Bentonville alone. NWACC and community volunteers have built 290 beds over the last seven semesters for families in our region.

  • On The Line: Volunteers will gather at NWACC’s Integrated Design Lab in Bentonville, where stations will be set up like a factory: miter saws cutting to length, a station to mark all the holes for drilling, drill presses set up to drill the holes, sanding crews, etc.

No experience is needed. Sign up to volunteer HERE.

House 1830 Brings Authentic Southeast Asian Flavors to Downtown Rogers

House 1830

One of Downtown Rogers's many hidden gems, House 1830 offers an immersive dining experience with traditional Southeast Asian dishes from Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.

  • A Family Legacy: Founded in 2023, House 1830 is the latest adventure from a family with over 30 years of restaurant experience. Owner & Chef Binh Hoang and Executive Chef Vatsana Hoang bring their passion for culturally authentic cuisine to NWA, welcoming guests into an atmosphere that feels like home.

  • A Flavor Trip: The menu updates seasonally, but the Honey Ginger Chicken remains a staple, and the Bun Thit Nuong is particularly good. The lunch menu features six dishes you can only get from 11a-2p. There’s a stellar lineup of desserts, too!

With one of our Daily Dine Cards, you can get 20% off at House 1830 (and nine other local restaurants). Get yours HERE.

Throwback Thursday

From Outlaws to Enchiladas: The Historic Heist at Taco & Tamale Co.

Randy McCrory

Long before it was home to Taco & Tamale Co., the building on the southwest corner of Bentonville’s Square experienced a dramatic bank robbery and shootout straight out of an Old Western.

  • Banks & Bandits: On June 5, 1893, Henry Starr and six armed men stormed People’s Bank, but Bentonville’s citizens fought back. Store owners, a deputy, and others took up arms, leading to a chaotic gunfight. A brave Miss Maggie Woods even snatched a bag of silver from the robbers, ensuring the bank could reopen the next day.

  • The Shooting Starr: Though the gang escaped, justice soon caught up. Starr’s criminal career spanned decades. He had brief periods of reform, even a short stint as a movie star in Hollywood, but ultimately returned to a life of crime and died during a failed robbery attempt in 1921.
