Local Moms Making Prom Dreams Come True for NWA Teens

A group of local moms are making prom night magical for teens in need with the Gownsational event this Saturday, Mar 1, from 1-4p at the Center for Nonprofits in Rogers.

  • The Fairy Godmothers: Now in its second year, this initiative was born out of hearing stories of families who couldn't afford prom dresses. Becky Luther, a local nurse practitioner and the founder of NWA Single Moms Sisterhood and Queenie Connects rallied the support of group moderators Meni Tenorio, Misty Henderson, and April Babinec.

  • The Ball Gowns: More than 75 local businesses have already pitched in for this weekend’s special event, offering dry-cleaning services, event space, and transportation for the dresses. Volunteers and donations are still needed if you’d like to help bring the magic to life!

  • Get Moving: FamJam Saturday offers families a low-cost day of fun with monthly themed events centered around a live performance that combines learning, entertainment, and fun! Tickets include access to indoor swimming (12-6p), ice skating (12:30-2:30p & 7-9p), and family craft time following the show.

    Curious Minds Unite: Based on the beloved book series by Andrea Beaty, Ada Twist, Scientist & Friends follows three young problem-solvers—Ada, Rosie, and Iggy—whose creativity is put to the test on a field trip gone wrong. With music by Bree Lowdermilk and lyrics by Kait Kerrigan, this family-friendly musical celebrates teamwork and the power of curiosity.

Benton County Leads U.S. in Wage Growth

Benton County saw the highest average weekly wage growth in the U.S. among large counties in Q3 2024, according to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

  • Big Gains in Benton: Average weekly wages in Benton County reached $1,516, marking a 15.5% increase from Q3 2023. The professional and business services sector played a major role, with wages in that field rising by 28.9%.

  • Statewide Trends: Arkansas’s average weekly wage growth of 5.5% outpaced the national average of 4.5%. Washington County also saw increases, though at more modest rates of 2.2%. Meanwhile, job openings in Arkansas dipped in December 2024, while layoffs rose by 14.3%.
