Symphony of Northwest Arkansas

Symphony of Northwest Arkansas

The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas continues its 2024-25 season with Jupiter Rising, a special matinee performance at Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville on Sunday, Feb 16, at 2p.

The Impossible Route / Kris Hull

Fayetteville will soon be featured in an episode of The Impossible Route, a docuseries that follows cyclists as they take on expert-level terrain, with filming tentatively set for May.

  • To The Extreme: The Impossible Route is hosted by 2x USA National MTB Champion Jeremiah Bishop and USA National Ultra Distance Champion Tyler Pearce (aka the Vegan Cyclist). Past episodes have highlighted endurance rides through Death Valley, Montana’s Glacier National Park, and the Pyrenees in France.

  • Ready To Roll: The episode will showcase Fayetteville’s outdoor culture, local riders, and local gear shops before setting out on the Ozarks Mega Loop, a 264-mile, multi-day bikepacking route that stretches through the Boston Mountains and Buffalo River region. Bishop will recruit a local cyclist to join him on the ride with as little as 24 hours’ notice.

Families waiting to move into the new affordable housing community at Cobblestone Farm in Fayetteville are getting closer to move-in day.

  • Final Steps: Located northeast of Wedington Drive and 54th St., the development features 89 residential units. Nearly 50 units are almost ready, 24 just need landscaping, and others are awaiting final touches. City regulations require a majority of the development to be complete before occupancy is granted.

  • Community-Driven: Under Arkansas’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, rents will range as low as $327 for a one-bedroom unit and up to $753 for a four-bedroom home. The project is also receiving support from Circles NWA, New Heights Church, the Excellerate Foundation, and Potter’s House.

Springdale Recycling Facility Paves The Way with Automated Sorting Technology

Keeping up with the rising demand for recycling services in the area, Fayetteville-based Cards Recycling recently opened a 30,000 sqft material recovery facility in Springdale, where the company plans to move its headquarters later this year.

  • Keep Calm and Recycle On: Cards Recycling facility handles recyclable waste like aluminum, cardboard, paper, plastic, and tin from residential, commercial, and industrial routes. The staff pre-sorts the waste before running the material through the facility’s optical sorter, which automatically detects and sorts recyclables.

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: While automated sorting technology is utilized along the East and West coasts, this kind of automation is new to the Northwest Arkansas region and diverts a larger amount of waste from the landfill than is typical for the market—85% versus 50%, to be exact.

How We Got Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area

Hobbs State Park

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area isn’t just Arkansas’s largest state park. It’s a living tribute to the region’s history, shaped by visionaries who fought to preserve its natural beauty.

  • A Battle for Preservation: Before it became a park, this land was home to the largest sawmill operation in Northwest Arkansas, owned by 19th-century entrepreneur Peter Van Winkle. Decades later, Roscoe C. Hobbs, a timber magnate and conservationist, ensured the land’s protection in his will. When development threatened to privatize the land, advocacy efforts supported by former Governor Bill Clinton helped secure its future as a public treasure.

  • Legends in the Landscape: From sunken homesteads beneath Beaver Lake to whispers of buried Civil War gold, Hobbs State Park is rich with folklore and mystery. Today, visitors can hike over 54 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, along with other immersive programs.
