Fayetteville Approves Concept Plan For River Access Park
Fayetteville’s Parks Advisory Board has unanimously approved a conceptual plan for Combs Park, a future river access park along the West Fork of the White River on the city’s southeast edge.
Restoring Nature: As part of a regional Blueway initiative, Combs Park will be Fayetteville’s first river access park designed for water recreation with access to hiking, swimming, wading, fishing, tubing, and paddling. Plans include removing a deteriorating dam to improve water flow and adding natural features to the 8.5-acre site.
Community Vision: Shaped by resident feedback, the park aims to balance recreation and conservation. Early phases will be funded by $2.4M from a 2019 bond issue, with additional grants supporting restoration efforts. Visitors can expect paved trails, event spaces, and parking for cars and trailers.

Get Inspired By The Story Of Bentonville’s Most Storied Aviator
You may have visited Thaden Field in Bentonville or even savored a delicious brunch at Louise Cafe in the Fieldhouse, but what do you know about its namesake?
Reach For the Sky: In the 1930s, Louise Thaden shattered aviation records by holding simultaneous women’s speed, altitude, and endurance titles, including an incredible 196-hour endurance flight in 1932 and a groundbreaking victory in the 1936 Bendix Transcontinental Air Race.
Defying Gravity: Louise Thaden's story reminds us that dreams are not bound by age, gender, or geography. She was “just a girl from Bentonville,” but she didn’t let that stop her from reaching for the skies and making history.
