Fayetteville Plans Dam Demolition To Prepare For New Combs Park

The City of Fayetteville will remove the 135-year-old Pump Station dam from the West Fork of the White River, making way for the upcoming Combs Park project.

  • River Restoration: After removing the obsolete dam, teams will work to revegetate miles of river bank to stabilize the stream bed. The historic native-stone pump house and caretaker’s cottage will be restored as part of a nature preserve.

  • Making A Splash: The $2.4m Combs Park enhancement will become Fayetteville’s first true river access park, with amenities for picnicking, hiking, swimming, wading, fishing, and paddling. The park will be one stop on what will become a “blueway” or river trail along the West Fork of the White River.

Solar Eclipse Events Happening Around Northwest Arkansas

Somewhere between 84,000 and 337,000 visitors are expected to visit Arkansas on Apr 8, 2024, to catch a glimpse of the Great American Solar Eclipse.

  • Total-ish: The eclipse’s path of totality will cut straight through the Natural State, and while Northwest Arkansas is slightly outside that path, the top left corner of the state will still witness between 95% and 99% range of totality.

  • Once In A Lifetime: Arkansas’s last total solar eclipse happened over a century ago on Jun 8, 1918, and the Natural State won’t see another until Aug 12, 2045. We’ll do our best to keep a running list of fun events and watch parties around Northwest Arkansas!
