Mixed-Income Housing Development Planned For Downtown Springdale

Groundwork — previously the Northwest Arkansas Workforce Housing Center — has announced its first investment in an attainable housing development in Springdale.

  • Building the Community: The project, known as "Big Emma," will consist of a 77-unit mixed-income apartment development located on Emma Ave. in Downtown Springdale. Thanks to a $6.75m grant from the Walton Family Foundation, 30 of the units will be permanently reserved for households earning below the area median income.

  • A Way Forward: Acting as a model for future projects, Groundworks’s first development aims to provide perpetually affordable housing options for teachers, nurses, and manufacturing workers near the amenities of city centers, like grocery stores, health clinics, and recreation opportunities.
